Serare Alkan founded Alkan Dijital Yayıncılık Anonim Şirketi and edits Metatopics. They write about how distributed systems keep records, why those designs were chosen, and what the design decisions mean for the people who eventually use the software.

Their working method is deliberately slow. An article begins with the public specification or the protocol documentation, is tested against the behaviour of the software being described, and is then rewritten until a reader who has never met the subject can follow it. Articles are revised whenever the underlying material changes, and each revision is dated on the page.

They hold no position, stake, token, share or advisory role in any organisation, network or product named in an article, accept no payment, gift or hospitality from any of them, and have no arrangement of any kind with the owner of any third-party name that appears on this website.
